Establishing a list of Italy's finest beach destinations is no easy feat but Essteele has narrowed down a collective of seaside locations that are beautiful beyond compare.
Marasusa Beach
With azure waters, white sand and palms redolent of a tropical postcard, Marasusa Beach is located in the pretty town of Tropea and aptly christened “La Costa degli Dei“‚Äîthe Coast of the Gods. It's easy to see why this summer favourite is considered the jewel of Calabria.
Cala Granara
Located on Isola di Spargi in the Maddalena Archipelago, Cala Granara is a summer magnet for local and overseas holidaymakers. The vivid cerulean waters are ideal for snorkeling and the beaches perfect for soaking up the sun.
Cala Goloritzè
Perched at the bottom of a ravine, Cala Goloritzè is one of Italy's most iconic beaches, located on the Sardinian coastline. With its breathtaking blue seas, white pebbly beach and spectacular mountain backdrops, it's little wonder the site gained a UNESCO rating in 1995.
Chiaia di Luna
Chiaia di Luna could quite easily be one of the most photographed beach settings in Italy. The beach is essentially a narrow arc of silvery sand at the base of a majestic volcanic rock wall curved in a half-moon shape—hence its name. It is located on Ponza, the largest island in the Pontine Archipelago, which is rife with stunning beaches.
San Fruttuoso, Liguria
San Fruttuoso, in Liguria, lies at the foot of a mountain and the sea and can only be reached by boat or trekking across said mountain. Thanks to its secluded location, this small coastal town remains an untouched gem and not only is it one of the most exquisite beaches in all of Italy but the ancient Benedictine monastery that overlooks the beach is showstopping.
Viareggio, Tuscany
This is a favourite classic Italian seaside holiday destination with its kaleidoscopic beach umbrellas, carefully tended sands and excellent seafood restaurants such as the stately Romano (romanoristorante.it). The Grand Hotel Royal is our pick of the luxe accommodation options with its soaring turrets, aristocratic design and Art Deco features.
